The concept is inspired by the following quote from Jeanette Winterson's book of the same title: "Written on the body is a secret code only visible in certain lights, the accumulations of a lifetime gather there.” Originally a framework for one specific performance, the idea navigates the intersections of music and dance, tradition and innovation, and composition and improvisation.
After a set of three pieces created under this philosophy was performed on June 21, 2014, Janet Smith of the Georgia Straight said, "another of the most transporting moments of the night was the creative collaboration between Shanto Acharia on cello, Meredith Bates on violin, Elisa Thorn on harp, Britt MacLeod singing, and Dayna Szyndrowski providing the rhythm by tap-dancing on three tidy little platforms. Located in one of the expansive park’s hidden gardens, the unlikely quintet was hypnotic as it interpreted Thorn’s lushly haunting compositions." (full article)
